• Hat Property Inspections   WETT Inspections (Wood Energy Technology Tranfer)

Hat Property Inspections offers WETT Inspections of any existing wood burning appliance.  This service can be added to any property inspection.  All WETT Inspections are subcontracted to a local expert wood burning stove and fireplace installation contractor who will be on site the same day as your property inspection.

    What is a WETT Inspection?

A Wood Energy Technology Transfer (WETT) inspection is an inspection of your wood burning appliance by a certified technician that is trained to identify local compliance standards. This is the only way to know for sure your wood burning appliance is in good enough shape for use

Do I need a WETT Inspection for home insurance?

Most existing dwellings that have wood-burning appliances are not yet WETT certified.   It may be necessary to receive a WETT inspection for your existing wood burning appliance so you can purchase insurance for your home.

What happens during a WETT Inspection?

The Level I inspection is essentially a general overview of the readily accessible parts, clearances, chimney heights, stove location with respect to combustible materials and visual signs to determine if the system meets the Standard Installation for Solid-Fuel-Burning Appliances and Equipment

What is included in a WETT inspection?

    A WETT inspection includes:

    • A detailed look at the chimney.
    • An evaluation of the liner and flue.
    • Smoke chamber check.
    • Inspection of the damper.
    • A close appraisal of the firebox.
    • A superficial and structural look at the hearth or floor around the appliance.
    • A general inspection of the surrounding area.

How long are WETT inspections good for?

The inspection report is valid from the day of the inspection. There is no official expiry date on the report, and as long as the appliance or surroundings have not been altered in any way, it should remain valid.
